Neillsville Girls Softball Wins Shootout

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 -- 6:49 AM

Neillsville scored 11 runs in the first two innings and then had to hang on to beat Greenwood in girls softball Tuesday 18-15.

Neillsville scored 6 times in the top of the first and then 5 more in the 2nd to take a commanding, or so it seemed, 11-2 lead. 3 more runs in the third and Neillsville led going into the bottom of the 5th 14-3, but.....

Greenwood came up with 7 hits and 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead to 14-11. The Indians were led by Teegan Mayenshein who had two singles and two runs scored in that 5th inning.

Neillsville scored 4 runs in the 6th to go up 18-11 but Greenwood scored two in the 6th and then two more in the 7th before the Warriors retired three Indian batters in a row to end the game.

Courtney Poeschel picked up the win while Ashley Friemoth and Kendi Pfieffer each had 3 hits for Neillsville.

Greenwood's Maddison Lucas took the loss and Teagan Mayenschein went 4 for 5 , Melissa Trybula 3 for 5 and Claire Lindner went 3 for 5 for the Indians.
