GREENWOOD TAKES OVER FIRST PLACE

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 -- 10:50 AM

The Greenwood Indian baseball team is now alone in first place in the Eastern Cloverbelt after a 7-1 win over Gilman on Tuesday. 7 runs in the first two innings would be all Greenwood starter Derek Sterland would need as he allowed just one run and struck out 11 in the win. Cyrus Nigon went 2 for 3 with a couple of RBIs for the 4th ranked Indians who improved to 13-1 overall and 12-0 in the Eastern Cloverbelt. Hayden Hinker also had two RBIs while Jeff Rachu, and Hinker also both scored twice. Gilman fell to 9-1 in the conference. The two teams meet again next Thursday, May 19th in Gilman.
