EXPRESS LOSE IN BATTLE CREEK

Monday, July 27th, 2009 -- 5:52 AM

It took them eight tries, but the Battle Creek Bombers finally defeated the Eau Claire Express on Sunday afternoon, the final score 4-1. Battle Creek scored early scoring three runs in the first and one in the second for a 4-0 lead. The early deficit was too much for the Express to come back from. Miguel Ramirez made his first start for the Express since arriving right after the All-Star break. Ramirez struggled through two innings though and gave up all four runs. Ryan Kiel (Marshall) was great in relief though going six innings and allowing no runs to give the Express a chance to come back. Ultimately though, the Express were not able to mount enough offense to win the game. Nolan Fadness (UW-Oshkosh) and Kole Calhoun (Arizona St.) had two hits a piece for the Express. They out-hit the Bombers 7-5 but were not able to get the timely hits. Eau Claire is now 9-13 in the second half. They will travel to Waterloo to take on the Bucks tonight and Tuesday. They will return home Wednesday to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
