EXPRESS WIN TWO IN BATTLE CREEK

Last night the Eau Claire Express finished a game from June 19th with the score tied at two in the bottom of the ninth. Battle Creek managed to get bases load with one out when the Bombers Joe VanMeter hit a ground ball to Express 3rd basemen Matt Fritz who threw out Josh Valle at the plate to keep the game tied at two. Relief Pitcher Ian Campbell got the next batter to ground out to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the tenth inning Eau Claire picked up back to back hits from Robbie Knight and Dominic Piazza to put runners at the corners with one out. Andy Leonard came up and hit a fly ball to center field scoring Knight to take the 3-2 lead. Campbell held strong in the bottom of the tenth to pick up the win.

In game number, two Battle Creek jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first but Eau Claire tied the game in the top of the 4th on a wild pitch and then scored two more on an error in the same inning. In the bottom of the 6th Battle Creek added a run to make the score 3-2 Eau Claire. Andy Leonard added some insurance in the 8th for the Express with a double with bases loaded scoring Knight and Kole Calhoun. Bobby Rinard?s sac fly plated Lucas Herbst to make the score 6-2 Eau Claire. The wins last night improved the Express?s record to 9 and 12 in the second half.

Other scores from the Northwoods League South Division last night:
Alexandria over LaCrosse 6-4
Madison over Waterloo 4-1 in 10 innings
Green Bay defeated Wisconsin 5-3.

The Express take on Battle Creek again today and travel to Waterloo for a doubleheader with the Bucks on Monday.
