Mondovi defeats Neillsville/Granton

The Mondovi Buffaloes got another big game from their senior running back Tanner Marsh on their way to a 42-12 Cloverbelt Conference win over Neillsville/Granton on Friday night.

Mondovi set the stage on the opening kickoff driving for their first score with 9:22 left in the first quarter - a 14 yard run by quarterback Cade Brenner. Marsh would score on a 15 yard run to make it 13-0 about midway through the first. On the ensuing kickoff, Neillsville/Granton's Micah Zoschke fumbled the kickoff and Dawson Rud returned it 14 yards for a touchdown to make the score 19-0.

Neillsville/Granton would get on the scoreboard with about 2:24 left in the first quarter on a 58 yard pass play for Andrew Brown to Jonah Zoschke to make it 19-6. The Buffaloes would score 3 more times in the 2nd quarter to make the score 42-6 at the half.

With a running clock in the second half and Mondovi playing their second string, the only score came with 3 seconds left in the game on a Brown to Ian Zoschke 17 yard pass play to make the final score 42-12.

Marsh led all rushers in the game with 170 yards on 21 carries and 2 touchdowns. Brenner added 61 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. He was also 8 of 13 for 108 yards and a touchdown thru the air.

For Neillsville/Granton, Brown, who was in for the injured Braden Trunkel at quarterback, rushed for a team high 57 yards on 13 carries and was 6 of 14 for 126 yards thru the air and 2 touchdowns.

Mondovi improved to 4-2 with the Warriors fell to 1-5 on the season. Neillsville/Granton will be at Fall Creek next Friday.
