Big 4th Quarter Equals Warrior Win

The Neillsville/Granton football team scored 28 points in the 4th quarter to pull away for a 55-36 win over Osseo-Fairchild in Cloverbelt Conference football on Friday night.

Neillsville/Granton got the scoring started early in the first quarter on a 35 yard quarterback sneak by Braden Trunkel. But Osseo-Fairchild then returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to take an 8-7 lead. But that was only the beginning. With 6:08 to go in the first, Trunkel would score again, this time from 7 yards out for a 14-8 lead. The Thunder would score late in the quarter on a Dayne Vojtik 1 yard run and a 16-14 lead after one.

Early in the second quarter, a pass from Trunkel was complete to Tommy Friemoth for 28 yards. Friemoth fumbled on the play and it was recovered by Carrson Mohr who scampered 33 yards for a touchdown. Neillsville/Granton led 20-16. The Warriors got the ball back on downs and on the first play, Jonah Zoschke ran for 66 yards and a touchdown and Neillsville/Granton increased their lead to 27-16. The Thunder were not thru though as quarterback Jackson Johnson snuck in from a yard out to cut the Warrior lead at the half to 27-24.

The 3rd quarter belonged to the Thunder as they scored twice. The first was a Johnson to Garrett Koxlien 14 yard scoring strike and the other was a for 14 yards. The other was a 5 yard Vojtik run that gave the Thunder a 36-27 lead.

Then came the 4th quarter.

The scoring for Neillsville/Granton started about midway through the quarter with a Trunkel to Mohr 14 yard pass play to cut the Thunder lead to 3-35. Neillsville/Granton then executed a successful onside kick and then would score on a Trunkel's 3rd touchdown of the night - a 20 yard run. Neillsville/Granton up 41-36. The Warriors would score again with just under 2 minutes to go in the game and again it was Trunkel, this time a 5 yard run, his 4th of the game to make it 48-36 Warriors. Then with 25 seconds left in the game, senior Matthew Ladd got his name in the scorebook with a 10 yard to complete the scoring and give Neillsville/Granton a 55-36 win.

Zoschke finished with 24 car, for 197 yds, and a touchdown. Trunkel carried 10 times for 77 yards and 4 touchdowns and Tommy Friemoth finished with 13 carries and 75 yards. The Warriors finished with 388 yards on the ground.

Jackson Johnson was 12-23, for 185 yds, thru the air with a touchdown for the Thunder.

Neillsville/Granton improves to 3-4 in the Cloverbelt and 4-4 overall. Osseo-Fairchild falls to 4-3 in the conference and 4-4 overall.
