Colby Tops Neillsville In ECC Showdown

The Colby Hornets topped the Neillsville Warriors 52-44 in a battle of the top two teams in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference on Thursday night in Colby.Neillsville got out to a 5-0 start but then the Hornets started to get their offense going. They went on an 18-2 run to take an 18-7 lead midway through the first half, fueled by Carley Elmhorst who three 3-pointers in the half. Colby took a 33-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
The second half started much like the first. Neillsville started the half on an 8-2 run and cut the lead to 4 but that was as close as they would get. Colby hit the shots when then needed them down the stretch and held of Neillsville for the 8 point win.
Ashley Streveler and Elmhorst led all scorers, each scoring 12 points, Hailey Voelker added 11 for the Hornets. Lauren Mesar and Bella Opelt led Neillsville with 11 points each.
Colby at 13-1 in the ECC has the inside track on their first ever Eastern Cloverbelt girls basketball title. Neillsville falls to 10-2 in the ECC.
