Youth Baseball & Softball Awards Presented

The Neillsville Recreation Department held their annual "Awards Ceremony" for youth summer baseball & softball on Wednesday, July 12th at the Neillsville Fieldhouse.

Over 100 boys and girls received certificates for their participation in either Little League Baseball, Junior Slowpitch Softball, or Fastpitch Softball. First place winners in all the leagues also were awarded individual trophies. All coaching staffs also picked a "Most Improved Player" and a "Major Leaguer Award" (based on excellence in attitude and leadership) winner who were presented with specially designed certificates as well.


The Little League honored the Rams as champions as they earned a sparkling 10-4-2 record. Members of the Rams squad who were coached by Regan Barth, Scott Hartung & Jesse Schultz included: Gunnar Barth, Austin Boon, Vaughn Seif, Rory Hanson, John Anderson, Kaiden Hartung, Cody Hart, Hunter Schultz & Nathan Kohl. In second place were the Huskers with a record of 8-6-2. Their coaches were Larry Hoeser & Scott Uptergrove. Placing third were the Aggies who were coached by Kent Miller, Roscoe Lamovec & Travis Berg and finished with a 3-11-2 record

The Junior Slowpitch Softball League crowned the Badgers as champions with a 9-1-2 record. Members of the hard hitting team included: Maddie Waters, Marie Jorgensen, Abby Koepp, Kelly Boon, Lilly Opelt, Lexi Boyer, Ashley Hensiak, Tehra Fausett & Shylah Walk. Coaching the champs were Matt Jorgensen, Laura Walk and Taylor Boon. Placing second were the Fighing Irish with a record of 4-6-2. Jeff & Emily Hanson lead the squad. In third place were the Wildcats who sported a 4-7-1 record as they were led by Brittney Lowry & Scott Uptergrove. Placing fourth were the Jayhawks who earned a 2-7-3 record and were coached by the duo of Michelle Grap & Butch Subke.

The winners of the "Most Improved Player" in the various leagues were: Abbi Elmhorst, Cali Moseid, Olivia Hahn, Tehra Fausett, Abram Balderas, Rydge Tibbett & Hunter Schultz.

Selected as winners of the prestigious “Major Leaguer Award” were Courtney Magnuson, Paris Opelt, Jada Gurney, Maddie Waters, Gunnar Barth, Tucker Johnson & Chase Uptergrove.

The Girls Fastpitch Softball teams were cited for their accomplishments as well. The 10U, 12U, 14U & Varsity groups were all recognized as were their coaches; Malory Zickert, Robin Harder, Courtney Poeschel, Carrie Schmidt, Missy Stockheimer, Brian Barth, Josh Johnson, Corrtney Schmidt, Taylor Gleisner, Tim Voigt, Sue Voigt & Rick Rochester. They will compete in the Neillsville Booster Club tournament and participate in tourneys in Tomah, Marshfield, Onalaska, Pepin, and Hagar City as well as playing league competition in Marshfield and Greenwood and picking up individual games throughout the summer with neighboring communities.

Following the awards ceremony, refreshments were enjoyed by all!
