University of Wisconsin-Whitewater earned a spot in the finals of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, while the softball team emerged victorious from the NCAA Division III Softball Super Regional over Illinois Wesleyan University at Illinois Wesleyan Field on Saturday.In baseball: At the Whitewater Regional, the Warhawks posted a 5-4 victory over Adrian College (Mich.) to secure the program's fifth trip in the last 12 years to the finals of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The finals will be held at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton on May 23-27. This will mark the 10th trip in the last 12 years for a WIAC program to the finals of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. At the McMinnville, Ore., regional, UW-Stevens Point was eliminated following a 4-2 loss to defending national champion Linfield College (Ore.). The Pointers completed the 2014 campaign with a 32-13 record.
In softball: The Warhawks won the opening game of the best two-out-of-three series by a 6-5 margin on Friday. Illinois Wesleyan rebounded with a 6-3 win on Saturday to force a winner-take-all contest that UW-Whitewater won 6-3. With the Super Regional triumph, UW-Whitewater (37-11) advances to the eight-team, double-elimination finals that will be held May 22-27 in Tyler, Texas.
