Neillsville Downs Spencer 14-4 In 5

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 -- 7:10 PM

The Neillsville baseball team scored 10 runs in the first inning and beat the Spencer Rockets 14-4 in 5 innings on Tuesday.

The Warriors were led in the first inning by the top 3 hitters in their lineup as Nolan Matson, Nathan Peterson and Neal Matson all scored 2 runs in the inning. Neville also had 2 hits and 3 RBI's in the inning. In all they had 6 hits in the inning.

Neillsville scored 2 more runs each in the 3rd and 4th innings to lead 14-1 going into the 5th inning.

Spencer then scored 3 runs in the 5th before Neal Matson was able to get a strikeout and a flyout to end the game.

Neville finished the game 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, Peterson and Neal Matson were both 2 for 2 and Peterson added 3 RBI's.

Neal Matson went the distance on the mound giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, striking out 10 and walking 4.

Bobby Pilz went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for the Rockets and Alex Brosowitz finished 2 for 2 from the plate.

Neillsville improves to 10-0 in the ECC and 12-1 overall, Spencer falls to 9-2 in the conference and 10-2 overall.

Neillsville is at Greenwood on Thursday at 4:30pm and Spencer is at Colby on Thursday.
