Gannett Central Wisconsin Media Holds Annual High School Sports Awards Banquet

Gannett Central Wisconsin Media held its annual High School Sports Awards event on Wednesday night at the Grand Theater in downtown Wausau and two Neillsville athletes and a coach were recognized.Nearly 80 standout high school athletes from central and north-central Wisconsin were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements. Athletes recognized from our area include:
Jenny Lindner and Erik Pekol - Neillsville
Jared Fleischman and Hannah Kruse ? Mfld Columbus
Aleesha Helgeson and Devin Klein ? Granton
Justin Cook and Rylie Johnson ? Greenwood
Logan Fulwiler and Taylre Wilke ? Loyal
Chelsea Akin and Lucas Zuiker ? Marshfield
Albert Goerlitz and Bailey Karaba ? Owen-Withee
Jenna Sanken and Adam Sturgis ? Pittsville
Tynae Phillips and Spencer Susa ? Spencer
Some area coaches were also nominated for an award:
Kent Hinker of the Greenwood baseball team was nominee for Boys Coach of the Year.
The Boys Coach of the Year Award went to Donn Behnke, Stevens Point Area Senior High cross-country
John Gaier, girls basketball coach at Neillsville was nominated for Girls Coach of the Year
Girls Coach of the Year went to Peggy Empey, Auburndale volleyball
Wausau East girls volleyball won the Girls Team of the Year Award while the Stevens Point baseball team won the Boys Team of the Year Award.
