Thorp To Play In Sectional Final Saturday

The Thorp Cardinal boys basketball team is one win away from a trip to Madison after a 52-47 Sectional Semi-final win over Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Thursday night at Rice Lake.The gym was loud and the action on the court proved why these two teams were pretty evenly matched. Thorp (15-9) trailed by just one after 1 period 16-15 despite the 12 first quarter points from Jack Mielke of Immanuel. The Cardinals then outscored the Lancers (15-10) 10-9 in the second quarter to tie the score at 25 at the half.
In the third quarter, Thorp opened up a 5 point lead at 35-30 heading to the final quarter. In that final quarter both teams gave it their all as the lead exhanged hands several times over the last couple of minutes, but Thorp was able to make some late free throws and make the final 52-47.
Mielke led all scorers with 26 points. Issac LaGasse had 19 to lead Thorp, Albi Maksuti had 11 and Dakota Lindgren added 10.
Thorp will now take on Drummond (16-9) in the Sectional Final Saturday afternoon at Spooner High School. Drummond is no stranger to the Sectional Final as this will be their 4th straight trip to the big game. Game time is 1pm and you can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
