Two WIAC Teams Secure NCAA Women's Basketball Bids

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 -- 6:23 AM

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater have received bids to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

UW-Oshkosh earned an automatic bid into the 64-team field by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament crown, while UW-Whitewater claimed one of 21 at-large spots. This marks the seventh straight year that the WIAC will have at least two teams in the national event.

The Titans (24-3) will host first and second round games March 7-8 and open against St. Mary's University (Minn.) (24-3). Also competing in Oshkosh will be Washington University (Mo.) (23-2) and University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) (20-7). UW-Oshkosh is making the program's 11th NCAA appearance and first since 2000. The Titans won the national crown in 1996 and placed second in 1995.

UW-Whitewater (22-4) will face Concordia University-Moorhead (Minn.) (21-5) in the first round in St. Paul, Minn. University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (24-4) will host Loras College (Iowa) (19-8) in the remaining contest. The Warhawks will make their 14th NCAA showing - and seventh straight - after advancing to the national title game a season ago. They finished third in 2008.

The finals of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship will be hosted by UW-Stevens Point at Quandt Fieldhouse March 21-22.
