Neillsville Gets Big Win At Spencer

The Neillsville boys basketball team got off to a quick start and never let Spencer get too close on their way to a 63-51 win at Spencer on Thursday night.

The Warriors (13-5, 12-3) got out to a 22-11 first quarter lead led by Michael Dux who had 12 points. In the second quarter Neillsville outscored Spencer (10-5, 10-4) 12-10, behind 10 points in the quarter from Matt Grottke, to take a 34-21 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Spencer came out shooting and outscored the Warriors 18-14 to cut the lead to 48-39 heading into the 4th. Joe Meyers had 9 points in the quarter to lead the Rockets.

The fourth quarter belonged to Neillsville as well as they outscored Spencer 15-12 to make the final 63-51.

Michael Dux led all scorers with 22, Matt Grottke had 15 and Sam Neville added 14 for Neillsville. Spencer also had three players in double figures led by Mitchell Susa with 14, Joe Meyers with 13 and Bobby Pilz with 12.

Spencer will host Marshfield Columbus in a make-up game on Saturday afternoon while Neillsville will be at Colby next Tuesday night.
