Football Level 3 Preview: Division 5

Thursday, November 7th, 2013 -- 9:17 AM

Travis Wilson of WisSports.net previews a couple of Division 5 games involving area teams...

Bloomer (10-1) at Stanley-Boyd (11-0) - Friday, 7 pm

The Blackhawks from Bloomer claimed an outright Heart O'North championship, with their only loss coming early in the year in overtime to Somerset. Running back Colten Seibel was a good player last year and has become a dominant force on offense, with nearly 2000 yards and 38 touchdowns on the ground. The Stanley-Boyd defense has been stout this year, and a well-balanced offense has put up plenty of points as well.

Stratford (10-1) at Amherst (10-1), Friday, 7 pm

Stratford exercised one measure of revenge already this postseason with a win over Marathon, the only team to defeat the Tigers this year. They have a chance for more redemption in this one, as they face off with an Amherst team they had on the ropes in the same level of the playoffs last year. Stratford had 1st and goal from the 7 in the closing minutes of a tie game, but went backwards with penalties. They threw a pick on 4th down that Amherst returned deep into their territory, setting up a game-winning touchdown with just 12 seconds left. The swift and abrupt turn of fortunes marked the end of legendary coach Cal Tackes' career at Stratford, but new coach Jason Tubbs has a chance to lead this year's group to redemption in what will be one of the top games of the weekend.
