Neillsville Football Team Preview

Friday, August 17th, 2012 -- 10:46 AM

The Neillsville Football team will have a new head coach and some positions to fill for 2012.

The Warriors finished 2-7 last year and will be under the direction of new head coach John O'Leary. Since last Tuesday, August 7th they have been hard at it putting in some long practices. Coach O'Leary said their goal has been to be progession based so they have been working on blocking and tackling progressions and he said he couldn't be more pleased with the effort of his players during practice.

The Warriors will be young with a lot of sophomores starting on this year's squad. Coach O'Leary said they have high expectations and his goal is for the team to get better as the season goes along.

Coach O'Leary hopes that this years team has a lot of enthusiasm and play hard until the whistle blows and he's seen that so far in practice. O'Leary said he's a firm believer that how well you play in a game is how you practice on the practice field.

Neillsville will have a scrimmage on Saturday morning at Owen-Withee. The Warriors will have 20 plays on defense and 20 plays of offense against Loyal, Auburndale and Owen-Withee. They will be evaluating a lot of players during the scrimmage and it will be a good test to see what they need to improve on.

Following the scrimmage they will evaluate how well they did as they prepare for their first regular season game next Friday at home against Spencer/Columbus.
