EDWARD S. SLONIKER, age 95, of Abbotsford, WI, formerly of Greenwood, WI, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Abbotsford Health Care Center.  Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood, with Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church, on Wednesday, from 10am until time of service.

Edward Sherman Sloniker was born on February 15, 1927 on the family farm in the Town of Loyal, Clark County, WI to Ross and Mildred M. (Schneider) Sloniker.  He received his education in area schools, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1944. Ed held various jobs during and after high school until his marriage to Bonnie Updyke on July 25, 1951 in Willard, WI.  They farmed southwest of Greenwood where they raised four daughters, and he worked for Liebzeit's cheese factory, earning his cheesemaker license in 1953.  Ed began working at the Greenwood Co-op and feed mill in 1962.  After their divorce, Ed continued to work at the feed mill.  He was united in marriage to Florence Premeau on October 13, 1973.  Ed worked for many years at the feed mill until retiring as the manager.  After retiring, he drove gravel truck part-time for Duane "Dewey" Syth to stay busy, and served as the mayor of Greenwood from 1984 to 1998.  Due to their declining health, his wife, Florence, moved into Clark County Rehab & Living Center, in Owen, and he moved into an assisted living facility in Colby.  His wife, Florence, passed away on September 12, 2017.  Ed later moved to Abbotsford, where he resided until his death.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he helped with many church events, especially the annual turkey dinner, was very active in the Greenwood Lions Club and the Greenwood Snowmobile Club, was a snowmobile safety instructor, and served on the Greenwood City Council from 1981 to 1984.

Ed had many interests, but especially loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, watching the Packers, going to the cottage with Florence, cooking at the softball diamond, helping out in the community in many different capacities, and he really enjoyed telling stories.

He is survived by two daughters: Laura Sloniker (Bill Truscio) of Woodruff and Cathy Beilby of Marathon; six grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Gates of Thorp, WI, Eric (Erin) Bauman of Prescott, WI, Erin (Dave) Marschke of Rhinelander, WI, Brandy Sloniker (Brandon Scheuneman) of Medford, WI, Lucas (Renee) Pagel of Marshfield, WI, and Levi Pagel of Medford, WI; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one son-in-law: Jack Pagel of Medford, WI; two sisters-in-law: Rosemary Sloniker of Greenwood, WI and Shirley Sloniker of Medford, WI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
