Velda “Jeannie” Volz, age 91, of Neillsville, WI died Friday, October 8, 2021 at the House of the Dove Hospice Home in Marshfield, WI.

Velda Jean Lewerenz was born on November 21, 1929 in Neillsville, WI the daughter of Carl R. and Elsa B. (Preuss) Lewerenz. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School and then graduated from Neillsville High School in 1947. Jeannie was united in marriage to Willis “Willie” L. Volz on June 11, 1949 in Neillsville. She worked for the Clark County Highway Department, Prock’s Northside Store, Bob’s Westside Store, Bob & Caryl’s IGA and as the Deputy City Clerk for the City of Neillsville. She retired on January 31, 1994 at the age of 65.

Jeannie was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. She enjoyed reading, fishing, cooking, baking, and watching and feeding the birds in their backyard.

She is survived by her husband, Willie, two daughters, Sally (Mike) Smith of Neillsville and Sandy (Ken) Ryczek of Pardeeville, WI, five grandchildren, Luke (Kristin) Smith of Neillsville Lacy Smith of Eau Claire, WI, Sheila (Ed) Roberts of Jacksonville, FL, Amanda (Christopher) Rogers of Plymouth, MN and Brittany (Michael) Beall of Waukesha, WI, five great grandchildren, McKenzie and Cashton Smith, and Christopher, Casey and Bethany Roberts, along with one great grandchild, “Bean” coming soon. Jeannie is further survived by a brother-in-law, Rodger Northup of Pickerel, WI, a sister-in-law, Jan Volz of Phoenix, AZ and many, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and five siblings, Rhinehart, David, Lorraine, Teddy and Donald.

A Memorial Service for Jeannie will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate. Music will be provided by Judy Trunkel, organist. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., Friday at St. John’s.
