Deadline For Frac Sand Hauling Agreements Extended

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012 -- 8:38 AM

The Marshfield News Herald is reporting that the deadline for hauling agreements between Wood County and three Marshfield frac sand companies originally set for tomorrow has been extended to Sept. 1.

According to Wood County Board chairman, Lance Pliml, the deadline extension was approved so that officials at the frac sand companies would have adequate time to seek approval of the agreements from their boards of directors.

The agreements will require frac sand companies operating in Wood County to pay a fee for road upgrades on county roads traveled by trucks hauling sand from the mining sites to the Marshfield facilities for processing.

After processing, the fine silica sand, in abundant supply in central and western Wisconsin, is shipped elsewhere for use in hydraulic drilling for oil and natural gas.
