Roadways Continue to Buckle in Extreme Heat

-The hot temperatures continue to wreak havoc on Wisconsin roadways.Another stretch on Highway 29 buckled Thursday afternoon near Boyd.
That?s the 5th section of pavement to blow up on Highway 29 in the past week. The DOT says the pavement buckles when slabs expand during hot weather, and push against each other.
The Wisconsin DOT sent out a notice yesterday explaining that pavement buckling danger would be high yesterday and today.
The DOT says it saw 17 pavement buckles on major highways on Wednesday alone. It says maintenance crews of four to a dozen workers, can typically repair highway buckling in about 2 or 3 hours.
A representative at the DOT said ?usually we see this type of failure in pavement that's 10 years old or older but what we're seeing right now on Highway 29 is about 6 or 7 year old pavement.?
