Fire in Marshfield Early Saturday Morning

Monday, July 2nd, 2012 -- 8:35 AM

-A fire on East Third Street in Marshfield damaged a business and some apartments early Saturday morning.

The fire was called in by a 29-year-old Marshfield woman after she woke feeling something wasn?t right.

Ashley Fleischman?s call likely saved the lives of the sleeping residents on the building?s second floor.

Eighteen firefighters battled the blaze and got it under control by 4:35 a.m. and the Hewitt and Spencer fire departments were on standby but didn?t have to be called in.

There were no injuries, and everyone in the building had evacuated by the time crews arrived.

The fire inflicted significant damage to The Clippe Jointe, a first-floor barber shop/beauty salon in the eastern part of the building, and moderate damage to the second floor apartment above it.

The fire caused between $150,000 and $200,000 in damage to the building and adjacent structures.

The fire department has ruled it an accidental fire caused by charcoal ash left in a plastic Dumpster in the alleyway near the building?s east side.
