Grants Available for Dairy 30X20 Program

Monday, April 2nd, 2012 -- 8:48 AM

-A new grant program that aims to boost state milk production by billions of pounds annually is now taking applications from producers.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, State Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel announced on Friday that the Grow Wisconsin Dairy Team is offering technical assistance to farmers to help them meet the goals of the Dairy 30x20 Initiative, which was unveiled by Governor Scott Walker last month.

"The Grow Wisconsin Dairy Producer Grants are a new tool available for producers to retain farms, facilitate operational changes and improve profitability," Brancel said. "By helping each farm become profitable, Wisconsin will produce 30 billion pounds of milk annually by 2020."

Brancel says the grant will be flexible and customizable to meet the needs of individual farms. Monies from the grant will be used by farmers to hire consultants and build a team of experts with a broad range of expertise to address specific business needs on their operation.
