Deal Makes Court Appearance for Crash that Killed Loyal Woman

Thursday, March 15th, 2012 -- 9:50 AM

-Tyler Ray Deal, 21, made an initial appearance in Marathon County Circuit Court on Wednesday after treatment of his injuries from the crash.

According to the Marshfield News Herald, while prosecutors await results of state crime lab testing on Deal's blood to determine if he was intoxicated, they filed two misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police believe the Pontiac Grand Am that Deal was driving was headed north on Highway V when Deal lost control, spinning the vehicle. The passenger side of the car hit a utility pole, which stood on the west side of the highway.

According to the criminal complaint:

While looking for identification on his passenger a plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance was found and later proven to be marijuana. Also found in the console was a green glass pipe used for smoking marijuana and a prescription bottle with three Hydrocodone tablets inside.

Wednesday in court, Deal waived the reading of the criminal complaint and Judge Greg Grau ordered a $2,500 signature bond on the misdemeanor drug counts. Deal was ordered to abstain from all alcohol or controlled substances and to have no contact with the parents of the crash victim.

This accident was the cause of death for his passenger, Paige Metz, of Loyal.

Deal's next court date is scheduled for April 10.
