The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the nation's biggest travel days.

The AAA expects 42 million Americans will travel by car or plane this year; around 850,000 of them will be Wisconsinites.

"Anyone planning to be among the many should expect very busy roadways, very busy airports," warns Pam Moen of AAA-Wisconsin. "(We're) actually expecting a four percent increase."

There will be good news, and bad news at the pump. Wisconsingasprices.com reports the average cost per gallon of gasoline in the state is $3.27. That's far less than the $4 per gallon we paid in June, but far more than the $2.85 we paid last year at this time.

"That's some 40 cents more than we paid at this time last year," Moen notes.

While bad winter weather has been holding off for most of the state so far, it?s only a matter of time before winter shows up, she says.

Travelers won't have to worry about construction. Road workers will wrap up at noon Wednesday. "Last week and continuing this week, we're completing more and more of our construction projects, so you'll see fewer orange barrels out there," says
Don Greuel, chief project engineer at the DOT.
