FIRST SNOW A-COMIN'?

Monday, November 7th, 2011 -- 12:14 PM

From the National Weather Service:

The weather pattern across the Upper Midwest will become more active this week as an early season storm brings the first snow to parts of the Upper Mississippi River Valley region. There is the potential for some accumulations on grassy surfaces (1-4 inches), more favorable over parts of southeast Minnesota into north central Wisconsin. For rainfall, storm total amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

A storm system moves out of the Plains, quickly tracking northeast across the Upper Mississippi River Valley and Great Lakes late tonight through Wednesday. There looks to be two surges of precipitation with the storm. First will be late tonight through Tuesday morning. Much of this will fall as rain, but there could be periods of a rain/snow mix, or just snow over southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Any snow accumulation in this time period would be minimal and on grassy surfaces. The next widespread area of precipitation would move in for Tuesday night, persisting into Wednesday morning. This precipitation will start out as rain, but likely mix with or change over to all snow Tuesday night.

However, it should be noted that if the storm system varies from its current forecast track, there will be subsequent changes in where the greater potential for snow will lie (along with possible amounts). Stay tuned to the latest forecasts and statements for more information on this storm system.
