"FAIR TRADE" COMES TO GREENWOOD

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 -- 11:36 AM

A church in Greenwood will do their part to help farmers and craftsman in disadvantaged parts of the world this week.

Pastor Brian Campbell and his congregation at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, 110 W. Begley Street, will host their annual Lutefisk Supper and Fair Trade Bazaar Wednesday night. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Bazaar is held in conjunction with Lutheran World Relief, an organization that recognizes the ?middleman? often takes advantage of the workers in disadvantaged areas of the globe.

"We try to follow the Gospel and support those that are poor and disadvantaged," Begley explains, "and the Fair Trade Bazaar is an opportunity to allow talented people from around the globe to have some of their items sold and share their culture with others."

As Lutheran World Relief puts it: ??it is tempting to make our buying decisions based entirely on price. But we ought to also consider the moral costs of our choices.?

Campbell says the items run the gamut.

"We have a number of craft items, some baskets, some food items. A good representation of materials from around the globe," he says.

This is an event the 70 to 90-member congregation looks forward to every year, Campbell says.
