(WDLB) When the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry unveiled its new slogan a year ago, Director Scott Larson says he didn’t know at the time just how prophetic that statement would become.

According to WDLB, a year later, and nearly a full year into the current COVID-19 pandemic, Larson told MACCI’s virtual annual meeting participants on Wednesday that the slogan “Marshfield Made New" took on a whole new meaning in 2020.

Larson also noted that 19 new businesses opened in the city last year, while 22 expanded, remodeled or relocated, and 11 closed.  Also last evening, Nelson-Jameson was named as MACCI's 2021 Firm of the Year.

Adam Nelson noted the firm was established in 1947 in Illinois and relocated to Marshfield in 1949.  The firm now has over 200 employees, with customers in all 50 states and over 80 countries.

In 2019, Nelson-Jameson purchased the former Figi’s office building and moved its headquarters and consolidated the Customer Service division into one building. Nelson-Jameson will celebrate 75 years in business in 2022, and becomes the fourth two-time winner of the “Firm of the Year” award.

Rice’s Capitol Carpet was named MACCI's 2021 Small Business of the Year. Rice’s is a locally-owned family business that started in 1973, and is now operated by Brad & Kerry Lenz.

Rice’s has now grown into a business that utilizes approximately 14-thousand square feet.  MACCI's annual Service Award went to past Chamber Board of Directors President and MACCI Ambassador Pat Wesenberg of Simplicity Credit Union. Pat is the 26th recipient of the Service Award.

Also last night, Danielle Nystrom of O-D-C was honored as Leadership Marshfield's Alumnus of the Year.  Nystrom was a member of the 2019 class of Leadership Marshfield, which is now in its 29th year.

Among other things, Nystrom was recognized for her efforts as the 2020 chairperson of the Rotary Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Display at Wildwood Park, which had its best year ever in terms of monetary and food donations.
