NO CHANGE FOR SIZE OF CLARK CO. BOARD

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 -- 11:24 AM

The Clark County Board decided Tuesday night to keep 29 supervisors for the next 10 years.

Now that the census numbers have been released, the board is in the process of redistricting. It?s the only time each decade when changes can be made to the size of the board.

Steve Okonek from Chili voted to amend a resolution titled ?Establishing 29 County Board Supervisory Districts? to read ?Establishing 25 County Board Supervisory Districts.?

The amendment was shot down on a vote of 5-22, as many seemed to agree with supervisor Al Bower.

"When you're looking at this cookie-cutter deal (where you) cut up (the districts)...A lot of us on here have worked to build report with the districts we represent," he said. "You're talking saving peanuts to cause a whole stir."

The board approved the unamended resolution, which will allow the redistricting committee to work with the county?s GIS specialist to form several maps re-drawing district lines based on population shifts in the past 10 years.
