STUDY: CLARK COUNTY'S HEALTH IS MIDDLE OF THE PACK

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011 -- 12:27 PM

An annual look at the health of the state's counties shows there?s room for improvement here.

Clark County ranked right in the middle of the state's 72 counties for health outcomes in the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation rankings.

"We have opportunities for improvement, especially around the areas of social and economic factors, as well as clinical care services that are offered around the county," explains Health Department Director Bob Leischow.

There has been some ?stabilization? in health risk factors.

"We're looking at some positive direction as far as reproductive health and teen birth rates," he says. "We're looking at some stable activity around general health improvements regarding chronic diseases."

The Amish community accounts for a sizable portion of the county?s population. Leischow says his department has made some inroads there.

"We have nurses who work with the Amish and Mennonite community routinely, in particular, regarding the immunizations. We're working very well with those that are allowing us in," he notes.

Leischow says the public is encouraged to contact the health Department to learn more about public health activities and services.
