Wisconsin Farmers Actively Conserving Resources

Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 -- 7:57 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin farm and rural land owners have been actively doing their part to conserve resources and be better stewards of their land.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the Wisconsin Natural Resources Conservation Service, which noted in its annual report that over 2,293 conservation plans have been written on 493,998 acres during the past year.

Another 775 acres of wetlands were either created, restored or enhanced in 2020.  Over the past 12 months, the agency has provided nearly $64 million in financial assistance through all programs to farmers.

Biggs says over 399,000 acres of cropland applied to improve soil quality, and another 55,475 acres of cropland moved forward to improve soil health and sustainability.

This year, NRCS celebrates over 85 years of being pioneers in conservation, working with landowners, local and state governments, and other federal agencies to maintain healthy and productive working lands.
