CHILI STREET DANCE BRINGS 'EM IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Friday, August 6th, 2010 -- 9:27 AM

Situated on CTH Y between USH 10 and CTH H is a small hamlet known as Chili.

But for one day every year, the village becomes the largest city in Clark County.

The Chili-Fremont Fireman?s Street Dance is tomorrow.

"The whole township (Fremont) is about one thousand. The actual village here, is right around 100 residents," fire chief Simon Fischer notes.

But, the population will swell to several thousand for the once-a-summer celebration.

"You see people you haven't seen for years, because they come back for it," he notes.

Aside from a fun time, the Street Dance also serves as the largest fundraiser for the fire department. "This is our major fundraiser. Without the street dance, and the support we get form our community, there's a lot of equipment we wouldn't have, because the budget simply wouldn't support it."

For instance, the rural department boasts a thermal imaging camera and Jaws of Life, Fischer notes.

One of the main fundraisers is the raffle; the prizes include an Arctic Cat 4X4 provided by TCR Power Products and a Cub Cadet riding lawn mower supplied by Chili Implement.

If you?re heading out, the Little League tourney and Antique Tractor Show start tomorrow at 8 a.m. There will be events throughout the day, culminating with the D Railers performing at 8 p.m.
