HEALTH CARE KEY TOPIC AT LISTENING SESSION

Friday, July 9th, 2010 -- 2:28 PM

The national health care debate is still stirring emotions, for and against.

U.S. Rep. Ron Kind stopped in Neillsville Thursday afternoon for a listening session. He heard from several residents who supported the health care reform bill, and some who are skeptical.

"The country is going in the absolute wrong direction," local insurance agent Dan McNeely lamented. "This health care bill was rammed down our throats in a partisan way, behind closed doors."

Kind says he understands the topic is controversial, but says there?s plenty of misinformation out there.

The argument could be made we already have guaranteed health care. People that are sick can get care, even if they have no insurance, and their bill is absorbed by

"The average person that had health care coverage was paying an additional $1,000 per year because of the cost of the uninsured," he explains. "The uninsured get hurt, or sick, or injured, they go in and get treatment, and those costs are passed on to everyone else."

Kind is up for reelection this November.
