VOLUNTEER GROUP LOOKING FOR HELP

Thursday, February 18th, 2010 -- 11:00 AM

A local group that provides services to the area?s elderly is looking for more volunteers.

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Clark County provides volunteers that help those over 60 years old stay in their homes.

"Active volunteers started in 1998. Most of my volunteers have been on the list since 1998, so, it's something they enjoy doing," explains IVC director, Sharon Hendrickson.

There are currently around 71 volunteers.

"Which is very low," she says, "we'd like to have as many as we can because we never know when we need to pull from the pool of volunteers. We would like to have that number almost doubled so we have a good resource."

IVC serves about 121 elderly people in the county. The volunteers provide services that run the gamut.

"It can be as simple as friendly visiting. We find our older folks are all of a sudden left at home. They just simply need someone to talk to once or twice a week," Hendrickson explains.

Volunteers often find they enjoy helping just as much as those they care for enjoy receiving help. Hendrickson could also use some volunteer help doing office work.
It?s easy to get involved. Just give Sharon a call at 743-7843.
