1 YEAR WITH NEILLSVILLE ROOM TAX
Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 -- 2:47 PM
The first year of the City of Neillsville room tax is drawing to a close. The ordinance creating the tax was approved last September. It also created a permitting process for hotels and motels and gives the city permission to audit establishments they believe are withholding the tax revenue from the city.
The 3% tax is paid directly to the city. Clerk/Treasurer Rex Roehl says over $9,000 was collected in the first three quarters of 2009. The final payment is due at the end of January.
70% will be used for tourism promotion and development; 30% will go to parks and recreation.
