LOCAL BAND GETTING NOTICED

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 -- 10:27 AM

A rock band from the Withee area are in Nashville trying to get signed.

Don?t get us wrong? There are plenty of bands out there, and many have aspirations of getting signed, but the guys from Fragile have already gotten farther than most.

Their new album, This Land Will be Civilized, already sounds like a major album release.

It was mastered by industry giant Bob Ludwig, who has mastered albums for nearly everyone in the music industry from Bruce Springsteeen to U2.

It was mixed by David Bottrill, who has worked with the likes of Tool and Godsmack.

Darrel Marrier is the lead singer, his brother Chauncey plays guitar and writes most of the music and Christopher Marion adds percussion, keyboard, and some guitar on the record.

Darrel says they?re learning the music industry isn?t for the faint of heart, but they?re making good progress and are meeting the right people down in Nashville.

"They've showed us the different options of what you can do in today's industry," says Darrel, "that's kind of a split between the do-it-yourself approach, and the major label approach."

"A little of both is what they're recommending," Marrier says.

The band has been meeting this week with an artist development group.

"These guys put together an attack, of sorts. It starts with, maybe some local radio play; it's sort of a grassroots movement," he explains, "you get something going in one town and you move on to the next."

The band knows it's all about leverage. "What you need is contacts and leverage and a little bit of luck," he says.

"We've got some great response from everyone that hears (the album). They thought it was complete sound. When we started, we took on the 'go big, or go home' attitude," says Marrier.
