HERITAGE DAYS TIME

Thursday, July 9th, 2009 -- 11:35 AM

Neillsville?s summer festival gets underway Thursday.

The 15th annual Heritage Days celebration has a theme this year of ?Three Cheers for Volunteers.?

Thursday?s big events include the opening of the beer garden at 5 p.m. and the Karaoke Contests: the Junior Division starts at 7 p.m;, the Senior Division starts at 8 p.m.

"We want to honor the volunteers," explains Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy, "we have a lot of volunteers every year for Heritage Days, as well as everything else in the city. There are volunteers in every walk of life. These people deserve recognition."

One of the big events planned for Friday night is the crowning of a new Little Miss and Miss Neillsville.

The coronation will get underway at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium and is organized by Janel Thur and Mandy Krejci.

"We have five contestants. They're judged on many different things, they have interviews, a final interview on stage, their sash appearance and other things," Krejci explains.

They don't want to give away any secrets, but organizers have been working hard to plan a show that will be unlike any other area queen coronation you?ve seen.

Miss Neillsville will spend the rest of the year representing the community.

"Miss Neillsville represents the city for the next year. She'll go to different events, such as the Fly-in Breakfast, the tree lighting, all the Heritage Days functions and all the parades," she says.
