GETTING AWAY WITH TORTURE?

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 -- 11:05 AM

At a listening session in Loyal Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) said the Bush Administration should not be immune from punishment for carrying out torture.

"Including the lawyers who wrote the memos saying it was legal to do this. No. No lawyer who believes in their legal oath could have said that this was legal." Feingold railed. "These were outrageous documents, and I think there should be some punishment."

Feingold said he disagreed with Pres. Obama?s apparent stance that the country should just move on. Much will be left up to Attorney General Eric Holder, he said.

"I think what we want to do is see what Mr. Holder has to say on this issue. It would be unjustified, in my view, if there is no consequence at all," Feingold said.

Feingold holds listening sessions in every county at least once per year.
