COUNTY SHOWS OFF ADRC

Friday, May 15th, 2009 -- 2:42 PM

Clark County showed off their new ADRC yesterday during an open house.

ADRC stands for Aging and Disability Resource Center, and it's basically a ?one stop shop? for older adults, and those with physical or mental disabilities.

Sue Voigt with the ADRC says, before the ADRC, people seeking services would have to contact several different departments?

"In the past, people would call different departments not knowing where to go, who to ask, where do they learn of the services." Voigt told us, "This is really meant to help people navigate through the services."

It?s one element of the state's Family Care system, which aims to streamline services, freeing up funding to eliminate waiting lists.

"We're progressing pretty well. It would be nice if we could provide services right away. As we're starting to meet with people, and take people off that list, we're noticing it's going a lot quicker than we expected," Voigt noted.

The ADRC is located on the 2nd floor of the Clark County Courthouse, right down the hallway from the Aging Office.

"Often times, we offer to meet with them. If they can't come to the courthouse, we're more than happy to come and do home visits. We do those quite often." she says.

You can contact the ADRC by calling 743-5166 or toll free 1-866-578-2372.
