TIMBER SALE BIDS APPROVED

Thursday, May 14th, 2009 -- 12:28 PM

All things considered, the Clark County Forestry and Parks committee was happy with their Spring timber sale bids.

They approved the high bids on 15 tracts of county forest Thursday. The bids total over $833,000, 32% above the appraised value, but lower than the November bid opening of $864,000.

"Everything considered, I think it went very well," said Rick Dailey, a forestry assistant with the Forestry and Parks Department.

The price of most species of wood is down this Spring, partly because of the economy, but also because of quality, he explained.

While the forest is more diversified than it used to be, pulpwood still accounts for a huge chunk of the bids.

"If New Page would shut their doors, we'd be in big trouble," Dailey said.
