NEILLSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETS

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 -- 1:02 PM

The Neillsville City Council took action against Pit Bulls Tuesday night.

In 2003, the city became one of the first to pass an ordinance banning pit bulls in the city limits. Pit bulls currently licensed to live in the city were grandfathered in.

At that time, there were 18 licensed pit bulls in the city limits; there are only five left.

Still, city officials have received some complaints about the animals running at large.

Under the current ordinance, the city can fine owners if their dog is loose, but last night, the City Council passed an ordinance revision that will allow them to banish pit bulls that violate the ordinance.

The Council also approved an ATV route extension that will allow ATVs to travel down Center Street to A & W Restaurant.
The Council has put the brakes on advertising in the Town Square Park. Many people have put garage sale signs, and other advertisements in the park, but, according to Mayor Diane Murphy, it?s getting out of control. The Council agreed, and voted to limit advertising to City functions only.
They also accepted and appropriated $54,000 in Listeman Foundation money. $50,000 for the American Legion Building Fund, $2,000 for the fireworks display, $2,000 for Heritage Days and $500.00 for 7th Grade Basketball.
