NEILLSVILLE MIGHT TWEAK PIT BULL ORDINANCE

Thursday, April 16th, 2009 -- 11:58 AM

The Neillsville City Council is again targeting pit bulls.

In 2003, the city became one of the first to pass an ordinance banning pit bulls in the city limits. Pit bulls currently licensed to live in the city were grandfathered in.

At that time, there were 18 licensed pit bulls in the city limits; there are only five left.

Still, city officials have received some complaints about the animals running at large.

Under the current ordinance, the city can fine owners if their dog is loose, but, on Tuesday, the City Council directed the City Attorney to draft a ordinance that would allow them to banish pit bulls that get loose.

The ordinance will set up a ?two strike? policy.
