AREA SPECIAL OLYMPIANS TAKE FLIGHT

Some special area athletes are on their way to the World Winter Olympics in Boise, Idaho.

20-year-old Mike Tyler of Granton and 22-year-old Edward Smith of Neillsville departed from Dane County Regional Airport Thursday morning.

They?re on their way to Salt Lake City for a Team USA pep rally, then they?ll travel to Boise for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, which start Saturday and run through next Friday.

Tyler competes in the snowshoe event; Smith competes in the snowboarding events.

They?re part of a 420-member delegation from the U.S.
