Merrill Man Accused of Wausau Shooting Incident Appears in Court

Thursday, April 25th, 2024 -- 1:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Merrill man accused of a Wausau shooting incident and subsequent vehicle theft was in court on Wednesday.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Zach Teske entered a not guilty plea to numerous charges including reckless injury, felony bail jumping, and taking a vehicle without consent from the owner.

Investigators say he got into an argument with someone at a home on North 7th Street on April 10th, then shot the person in the leg. Police say he fled the scene before first responders arrived, then went to a nearby home and stole a pickup. Police were able to track that vehicle to Oneida County thanks to license plate reader technology, known as FLOCK cameras. Teske was arrested a few hours later.

Court records show he has a dozen open cases against him including a misdemeanor OWI, felony forgery counts, misdemeanor battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegally obtained prescription drugs, and a felony count of identity theft.

All the cases have been cross-referenced, meaning they will move forward together. The 36-year-old is being held on a $100,000 bond and will return to court on May 20th.
