Jury Trial Set for Marathon County Man Accused of Child Sexual Assault

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024 -- 11:00 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A four-day trial has been scheduled for a Marathon County man accused of three counts of child sexual assault.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Martin Raatz will go to trial from October 7th through the 10th for the felony counts, which could land him in prison for 180 years. The 26-year-old is accused of inappropriately touching several girls during the summer of 2022.

At the time of the alleged incidents, he was on probation for an earlier conviction, meaning he could serve additional prison time for the new charges. The  State is also looking to place Raatz on the state’s sex offender registry for the rest of his life, given the severity of the charges and his prior convictions.

He was found guilty of repeated sexual assault of the same child back in 2015 and in 2016 he was found guilty of a misdemeanor for having sex with a child older than 16. He’s being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

If no plea deal is reached, the sides will return to court for a jury status hearing on September 13th ahead of the October trial.
