Wisconsin Rapids’ New Mayor Sworn In

Thursday, April 18th, 2024 -- 12:01 PM

(Thomas Schumacher, WSAU) The city of Wisconsin Rapids has a new mayor.

According to Thomas Schumacher with WSAU, Mayor Matt Zacher was sworn in by the city council on Tuesday night, along with Jeff Penzkover, who will take over the District 4 Alder seat from Tom Rayome, and Madalyn Palmquist, who was seated in District 8, taking over the seat formerly held by Jay Bemke.

The city also discussed what to do with Mayor Zacher’s now-open District 3 seat, deciding to appoint someone through an application process in May. The council stated that several applications have already been submitted, and candidates who make it past the interviews will speak during that month’s meeting.

Alders will then vote one of the applicants into the seat. That person will serve the remainder of Zacher’s term with the option to run for re-election in 2025.
