Wisconsin Rapids Man Accused of Stealing Vehicle in Marathon County Appears in Court

Thursday, December 14th, 2023 -- 12:01 PM

A Wisconsin Rapids man arrested in Wood County recently for allegedly stealing a truck in Marathon County appeared in court.

According to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department, they responded to a report of a stolen truck at the Cenex on Division Street in Colby. The man who made the report stated that he had left his truck running, went into the Cenex, and when he returned it was gone. After watching the surveillance footage, the officer recognized the suspect Julien Jaminski.

According to court records, Jaminski has numerous other charges against him in other counties that include theft, taking a vehicle without consent, and more. On the same day, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department had located the stolen truck in Vesper. The Colby-Abbotsford Police Department took Jaminski into custody. Jaminski claimed a man named Curtis said he could borrow the truck.

However, authorities told him that they had footage of him on camera taking the vehicle. Jaminski then asked if "they had him on camera." The officer said they did and Jaminski replied, "Dang, well I guess I'm screwed then."

Apparently, Jaminski had allegedly been wandering around the Cenex most of the day, occasionally asking for food and water. Jaminski is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, obstructing an officer and bail jumping.

He could be sentenced to more than 10 years in jail and fined $30,000 if convicted of all the crimes alleged against him. During his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, probable cause was found so his court proceedings will continue.

He entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. Jaminski was listed as homeless on court records in Eau Claire County crimes in late 2021 and early 2022, court records show.
