(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A convicted sex offender will be released in Wausau and placed under supervised administration by the Department of Corrections.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jacob Clawson has reached his mandatory release date for a 2017 conviction for repeated sexual assault of the same child. He pled no contest to the charges and was sentenced to eight years in the state prison system.

He was granted credit for nearly two years already served in jail. Once released he will live in transitional housing near the Marathon County Jail and will be subject to GPS monitoring.

His extended supervision runs through December 2038. He will be required to maintain full-time employment or schooling or complete nine hours of community service per week. As part of his extended supervision, he will not be allowed contact with any children under the age of 18.

The 38-year-old will spend the rest of his life on the state’s sex offender registry.
