Aspirus Stanley Hospital Employee Named Community Hero by Wisconsin Office of Rural Health

As part of the celebration of National Rural Health Day on November 16, Aspirus Stanley Hospital Emergency Department Supervisor and Trauma Coordinator Nicole Dekan, RN, BSN, was named a Community Hero by the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health.

Each year the Office of Rural Health recognizes Community Heros who have made an impact on health in their rural communities. Dekan has served in her role at Aspirus Stanley Hospital for the past 18 years with primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining the highest standards of care within the Emergency Department.

Her role as Trauma Coordinator ensures a swift and coordinated response to critical situations. She also plays a crucial role in the ongoing education and training of healthcare professionals in a rural setting.

Dekan was nominated for the honor by Debbie Harris, RN, BSN, Director of Nursing at Aspirus Stanley Hospital. “What sets Nicole apart is not just her clinical competence but her compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care,” said Harris. “She consistently goes above and beyond to provide comfort and reassurance to patients and their families during times of crisis, embodying the true spirit of a healthcare hero.”

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dekan was also hailed for engaging with the local community, organizing health education initiatives, and collaborating with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and other healthcare providers to enhance the overall health and safety of rural residents.
