Man Alleged to Have a Bounty on a Man Killed in 2020 Scheduled to Stand Trial in 2025

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023 -- 2:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The man who is said to have put a bounty on Christian Schauer before he was killed and his body was dumped in a Marathon County marsh will stand trial in early 2025.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, that nine-day trial is currently scheduled for January 21st through the 31st for one count of being a party to the crime of homicide.

Investigators say Crandall wanted Schauer dead because he had stolen some prescription pills that the 25-year-old was going to sell. He then offered a five thousand dollar bounty to another man, who killed Schauer in December 2020 and dumped his body in the McMillan marsh.

Three people have been sentenced for the crime including Jared Carl, who is serving a life term for pulling the trigger. Crandall will return to court in mid-December for a status conference, he is currently serving a prison term for an unrelated case of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
