DNR Tests Show Endemic PFAS Contamination in Private Wells
Tuesday, November 7th, 2023 -- 12:01 PM
(Raymond Neupert, WRN) Private well testing by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources found most had detectable PFAS contamination.
The DNR tested samples from 450 shallow wells and found that 71 percent of them had some level of contamination. Only 4 percent of the tests showed contamination at levels that meet the EPA's proposed limit for drinking water.
The agency found much of that contamination is from septic tanks and human waste. The findings were released in the journal Environmental Science & Technology.
